My BFF’s for today: Aleve and Gatorade

8 Jun

Even in the afterlife, my sister knows how to throw a party. Yesterday marks what would have been my sisters 30th birthday. She passed away a few years back but I still make it a point to celebrate her special day.

Last night we had a few people come over…my cousins, friends. It was an impromptu potluck turned carbfest (most of the dishes were pasta/noodles and such). No complaints there.

It was nice to see everyone together…to see that she is still able to bring us together like she used to when she was alive.

A portion of the evening was dedicated to sharing memories about her since there were some in the group who have not had the privilege to meet her but can get an idea about her with the stories we told. Driving lessons…the “anonymous” aisle, and her ability to be completely aloof were spoken of last night. It was difficult for me to not cry as I told my stories…especially when I look up to see some have already had water in their eyes.

In any case, it was a great evening made out of fun, drinks, great food, lovely company, and games. Yes games. Guesstures to be exact. She would’ve laughed to see how animated our little brother is at this game. She would’ve been even happier to know that I had a ton of fun myself…too much fun…so much so I had to rely on Aleve and Gatorade first thing this morning. My loyal BFF’s.

Mimosas…friend or foe?

30 May

This morning me and my love decided to get breakfast at our local joint, Lakeshore Cafe. They usually don’t serve brunch on the weekday but lo and behold, the brunch menu was available for memorial day! Brunch meant $1.95 Mimosa specials (strawberry or original).

We had a wonderful breakfast and 3 mimosas later (each) we were feeling great….our dear sweet mimosa was being as sweet as ever! Putting us in a fun and playful mood…keeping us entertained.

Fast forward to the afternoon…our friendly mimosa treat decides to go rogue on us.

Our dear mimosa friend decides to give us the infamous champagne headache. Ugh, the bad kind…the worst kind. The kind where your brain feels like scrambled eggs in your head…shaking around as you walk about and mind your own business. The kind that can put you down for the count and ruin the remainder of your day. Taking an afternoon nap wouldn’t work…in fact, it’ll make matters worse. This makes the mimosa angry…upon awakening the headache feels worse and now the sun and lights just seem to damn bright for comfort. Can someone turn the sun down????

Only medication does the trick (if you’re lucky).

She tempts us with her tasty-ness then turns her back on us when we don’t expect it.

Mimosa…our frenemy.
